A RESOLUTION COMMENDING WILLIAM AND BILL MORGAN ON RECEIVING THE 1998 DUO OF THE YEAR AWARD FROM THE COUNTRY GOSPEL MUSIC ASSOCIATION.

WHEREAS, William Morgan and his son, Bill Morgan, received the 1998 Duo of the Year Award from the Country Gospel Music Association of Pulaski, Virginia; and

WHEREAS, William began his music career with a rock and roll band, "The Five C's," consisting of himself and four cousins who spent ten years playing gigs on the weekends all over the South and occasionally the Midwest; and

WHEREAS, traveling throughout the South, William and Bill, referred to as Morgan and Morgan, have performed in venues from Texas to Georgia, often performing to appreciative country gospel fans at Wal-Marts across the region; and

WHEREAS, Morgan and Morgan have produced and recorded tapes and CD's in Nashville, Tennessee, including "Quiet Times" and "Love Them While You Can"; and

WHEREAS, Morgan and Morgan received their first national recognition from 1995 to 1997, when they won the Airplay International's "King Eagle" Award as Duo of the Year; and

WHEREAS, the Morgans also have appeared with Christian comedian Dennis Swanberg on his "Swan's Place" television show in Dallas, Texas; and

WHEREAS, William and his wife, Ann, along with Bill own the local television station for Bruce, Mississippi, that reaches about a 25-mile radius; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the Legislature to recognize and commend such outstanding Mississippians as William and Bill Morgan, whose music has touched the lives of so many across the state of Mississippi and the southern part of the United States:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MISSISSIPPI SENATE, That we do hereby commend and congratulate William and Bill Morgan on receiving the 1998 Duo of the Year Award and extend to them our heartiest wishes for success in all their future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to William and Bill Morgan and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
